Music and Religion/ Philosophy

Growing up, we have been going to my mama's family church called Star Bethel Baptist Church in Landurm, South Carolina. When I was in the 6thgrade, my family and I started going to a church called Vision of Faith in Spartanburg, South Carolina.  Vision of Faith is a non-denomination church, which mean it supports all religions. Star Bethel is really different from Vision of Faith because Star Bethel sing more older songs. The number one song, we sing there is Praise Is What I Do by William Murphy.

Vision of Faith’s choir sing more up to date songs. For example, Were Blessed by Fred Hammond, Break Every Chain by Tasha Cobbs, and Its Working by William Murphy. Both of the churches I go to, we sing first than the Pastor would the speak the word.

I believe that music is a big part in religion because it put me in a spiritual mood. Especially, when it’s the right song and you have been going through a lot that week, it makes me stress free and feel closer God. The purpose of music in religion is to give God the praise and to connect to God more. I feel like are no rules to religion songs because everyone connects to God to different. Also, everyone has their own personal story from what God has done for them. At Star Bethel and Vision of Faith we use piano, vocals, drums, guitars, and tambourine. My favorite two songs are Broken by Skekinah Glory and Melodies from Heaven by Kirk Franklin. The song Broken teach me that it’s ok to make mistakes because God will always be there for you. The song Melodies from Heaven teach me to live for God to have peace in my life. In October, my dad and I had started going to his family church called Macedonia Baptist Church in Campobello, South Carolina. Macedonia and Vision of Faith are the same because they both sings songs up to date. Also, the songs they sing always matches what the pastor is going to preach about.

  1. I think music is the most amazing element that connects us with god. I personally think it is the best feeling when you feel what you sing and the lyrics of a song plays a great role in every worship. Also, I really enjoyed watching the songs you have posted in your blog. Its amazing!.

  2. I go to a non-denominational church too. It is a bible church, so the doctrine is much like a baptist church. The organization of the church government is different though.
