Music and Gender

When I was younger, I never played a instrument because I was more into sports than dance. My sister Rachael played the clarinet in middle school. My sister was the only person in my family that played a instrument. I went to Boiling Springs Middle School in 7th and 8th grade, girls and guys did listen to different genres of music. Some people listen to hip hop, R&B, rap, country, and pop. In middle school, they had a man and female for the band director. I took a music appreciation in 8th grade and we listened to different types of music.

Going to high school, the main people playing the drums was guys. In orchestra, there were more females than guys in it. But, chorus it was a mixed of female and guys singing. In music, sometimes gender plays a role in it because some music producers feel like men make it better in the rap game, than female does. In high school, the band director was a man, but the captains were females.

All the churches I have been to, the church choir is mostly made up of women and the guys are the ones that plays the instruments.

  1. Growing up I never play an instrument either. I always wanted to learn the play the piano though. I feel like guys always play instruments when it comes to music.

  2. I have noticed that many guys play instruments, especially the drums and brass instruments. It also always seemed to be looked down upon for guys to join the choir even though we need to have as many guys as possible in there for there to be a good blend.

  3. I love listening to a choir sing especially when there is a mixed amount of men and women because sometimes I like the large range a choir can reach with both genders. In my high-school band there was a large mix of girls and boys and it was fun watching them play together.

  4. This is all interesting, Tianna. You need to write more, though--remember, there's an expected word count on these, as a way of trying to get you to think more.
